Why does every generation of teenagers think they invented everything?

Like rock music, funny hairdos and colours, piercings, leather studded wristbands and other accessories, sex, homosexuality, tattoos, trainers (sneakers), skateboards, baseball caps, foul language and drugs, rap music and being a "gangsta". This was all around 25 years ago before these kids were even alive, why do they think they invented it?
